Buffalo, NY – December 20, 2011 – SBS Farms has recently added numerous accolades and awards to their already extensive record. The Cleveland Foundation honored Billie Howland Steffee at their biannual Frederick Harris Goff & Legacy Societies Leadership recognition event. Steffee was awarded the Frederick Harris Goff Philanthropic Leadership award for her dedication to the community and belief in the power of philanthropy.

Steffee’s love of animals is apparent at her home at Craighead Farm of Novelty, Ohio, as well as through her many philanthropic actions. Steffee sponsors and supports many organizations such as the IHF, IJF, USET Foundation, Kentucky Horse Park and Kentucky Horse Park Foundation, the American Gold Cup and the Rider’s Club. In the Chagrin Valley PHA Horse Show, Steffee and Craighead Farm sponsor the Welcome Stake, Sportsmanship Award, Hunter Derby and the Grand Prix. She also is a Chagrin Valley Hunt Club member and on its stables’ Board of Directors. Steffee was a member of the Miss Independent Group sponsoring Laura Kraut and Miss Independent throughout their international career.

Craighead Farm has bred many champions over the years for varying disciplines including hunters, jumpers, dressage and eventing. The breeding operation at Craighead Farm started with the purchase of All the Gold from Jessamy Rouson of Keswick, Virginia, in 1987.

Steffee’s most recent rising star is the five-year-old bay Brandenberger mare, Maggie May. With Jennifer Alfano in the irons, Maggie May has already claimed the championship award for the Pre-Green Hunters at the Buffalo International Horse Show, as well as the Baby Green Reserve Champion at the Bluegrass Festival in Lexington, KY.

Outside of the equestrian world, Steffee is the president of the Billie Howard Steffee Family Fund of the Cleveland Foundation. Steffee began the fund in 1998 with more than $9 million. As of June 2011, grants totaling more than $7 million have been made to a wide range of organizations helping children of all ages and othe causes. The fund rolls along with more than $5 million in reserve. There have been grants to assist children with autism, to further childhood development, to fight the influence of gangs on urban youth, and to create supportive homes for adults with developmental disabilities.
